        Some things to remember when applying for scholarships:

        • It's important to remember that applying for legitimate scholarships should not cost you any money! 
        • As you are accepted into colleges be sure to search their websites for their scholarship opportunities
        • Some employers offer scholarships, parents/guardians should speak with their Human Resources departments about possible opportunities
        • Clubs and various organizations offer scholarships if parents or family members are members of those clubs- parents/guardians be sure to inquire! (Examples include- Lions Club, Rotary Club, Elks Club, American Legion, Moose Club, etc).

         National Cyber Scholarship Program:
        The National Cyber Scholarship Foundation has arranged for every high school student in America to gain free access to CyberStart America (CSA).  CSA is a national program aimed at discovering hidden cyber talents, and to identify and develop the next generation of cyber superstars.  This scholarship is open to students age 13 or older, who are enrolled in 9th, 10th, 11th or 12 grade and who have achieved the required level in CyberStart Game by March 8, 2021.  The Competition will take place online April 5th and 6th, for those that qualify.  To register and learn more about this oportunity visit cyberstartamerica.org.

        SENIORS:

        Allegany County Area Foundation/Dollars for Scholars:
        The ACAF hosts a number of local, state and national scholarships for college, trade and tech programs.  The Foundation is partnered with Scholarship America to help streamline the process for students.  Please utilize this link to access the application.  Application deadline is late January 2021.

        Western NY Safety Conference, Inc:
        This $1,500.00 scholarship is open to all Western NY seniors planning to attend college in the Fall of 2021.  Applications and scholarship details can be found on their website.  Application deadline is February 19, 2021.

        NY Conference of Italian-American State Legislatures:
        The NY Conference of Italian-American State Legislatures is sponsoring four $4,000 scholarships (two academic and two athletic).  The scholarships are available to to residents of the 57th Senate District who are either current college students or high school seniors entering college.  Applicants should have a GPA of 85 or higher, be active with community service extracurriculars and demonstrate financial need.  Applicants do not need to be Italian-American to apply.  Utilize the links below for more information and the applications.  Applications are due by March 19, 2020.

        Workforce Readiness Scholarship:
        No-cost option for select students to earn a certificate in one of the following programs:

        • Industrial Equipment Technology
        • Machine Tool Technology
        • Welding Technology
        • CAD/CNC

        Scholarship for Academic Excellence:
        Scio Administration nominates Seniors who have displayed academic excellence, as demonstrated by class rank at the end of their Junior Year.  This is a New York State funded award and the number of students that Scio can nominate varies annually, based on the funding allotted to this scholarship program.

        Character Excellence Scholarship:
        Scholarships made available by the Character Council of Western NY and Harvest Time Partners.  Scholarships are open to students enrolling full-time in a college or trade school the Fall after high school graduation.  Students must be residents of Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Genesee, Niagara, Orleans or Wyoming counties.  Follow this link for more information: Character Excellence Scholarship.  All applications must be postmarked by February 28, 2021.

        Allegany Area Foundation Dollars for Scholars:
        Allegany Area Foundation is a Scholarship America affiliate and, as such, is able to offer the following:

        • Potential matching Gifts through participating Colleges and Universities
        • Security from loss of other financial aid (that is, schools less likely to use your ACAF aid to offset money they would award)
        • One standard Dollars for Scholars application for multiple scholarships

        Attorney General’s Triple “C” Awards Program:
        The student(s) who are nominated by Scio Administration are recognized for their “commitment, character and courage”.

        Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation (Formerly Big 30):
        The Foundation allows students to apply for 70+ applications through one application.  Some of these scholarships are available to Allegany County students.  Follow this link for more information: Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation

        New York Water Environment Association (NYWEA) scholarship:
        Scholarship opportunities for students interested in pursuing an environmental major in college.  Follow this link to the NYWEA website for their scholarship information: NYWEA

        Frederick J. Moricca III Memorial Civil Engineering/ Land Surveying Scholarship:
        E&M Engineers and Surveyors, PC offer two (2) $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors from Western NY and Northwestern PA interested in pursuing a career in the fields of Civil Engineering or Land Surveying.  Follow this link for more information:

        Air Force ROTC High School Scholarship Program (HSSP):
        For Seniors who are interested in being a military officer upon graduation from college, this link will direct you to Air Force ROTC’s HSSP scholarship application.  This scholarship could potentially help pay for some tuition as well as room and board.  Additional information can be found here:

        CollegeBoard Scholarships:
        CollegeBoard is a National organization that hosts a number of scholarships for multiple businesses.  Follow this link for more information!

        FASNY (Firement's Association of the State of NY)- Gerard J. Buckenmeyer FASNY Scholarships:
        $1,500 scholarships dedicated to young firefighters to continue their post-secondary education.  Follow this link to apply.

        National Honor Society (NHS):
        Students must be an active NHS member in the current graduating class and be planning to enroll at a US college or unicersity in the Fall of 2021.  NHS members must create an account so that the NHS adviser can verify their membership before students can begin the application process.  Applications are due December 1, 2020.  Follow this link for more information and the application.

        Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo (CFGB):
        Scholarships are awarded to students residing in Western NY, have at least a C (2.0) GPA and have been accepted into an accreddited college for full-time undergraduate study (the majority of colleges that offer in-person learning are accreddited).  Follow this link for more information and the application.

        National Society Daughters of he American Revolution (DAR) Good Citizen Scholarship:
        This scholarship recognizes one student, regardless of gender, who demonstrates qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism- the student is nominated by the Scio Scholarship Committee.  This scholarship includes a timed essay that is judged by the local DAR chapter and, if nominated, has the potental to move through a series of critiques to the State and National Levels.  There are monetary scholarships awarded at each phase of the competition.

        Sandy Chochran Memorial Fund Scholarship:
        This scholarship is meant to support students who are committed to pursuing a career in forestry, natural resource management and/or environmental science.  Scholarship amounts vary annually depending on available funds, and the number and quality of applicants.  Scholarships are awarded for study in 2-4 year programs.  Applicants must submit a cover sheet, an essay indicating how their career aspirations align with the Cochran vision, two or more letters of reference, and their most recent transcript.  Use this link for more information and to obtain the application.

        Leonard Bus Scholarship:
        This is a $1,000.00 scholarship based on an art competion entitled "A Day in the Life of a School Bus".  The winner will receive the scholarship and their artwork will be shared throughout New York State.  For more information please click on this link.  Entries are due December 31, 2021.  This open to Juniors and Seniors.

        JUNIORS:
        Bausch+Lomb Honorary Science Award, the George Eastman Young Leaders Award, the Frederick Douglas and Susan B. Anthony Award, and the Xerox Award for Innovation and Information Technology are all awards sponsored by the University of Rochester’s High School Awards Program.  Each nominee will have their Rochester application fee waived and will be eligible for a merit scholarship of at least $10,000 per year.  Award winners are not guaranteed admission or a scholarship to Rochester.  Students are nominated by Scio Administration.

        Leonard Bus Scholarship:
